Felix Mildenberger ist seit 2021 Erster Gastdirigent der Filarmonica Teatro Regio di Torino und ab der Saison 2026/27 neuer Generalmusikdirektor des Brandenburgischen Staatsorchesters Frankfurt.

Mit mehreren Preisen ausgezeichnet, dirigierte Felix Mildenberger bereits zahlreiche renommierte Orchester, darunter das Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, DSO Berlin, die Wiener Symphoniker, NDR Radiophilharmonie, das hr-Sinfonieorchester, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Camerata Salzburg, Dresdner Philharmonie, Staatskapelle Weimar, die Bremer, Dortmunder und Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, das Ensemble Modern, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre National de Lille, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Taipei Symphony und Nagoya Philharmonic. Zu den Solist*innen, mit denen er gearbeitet hat, zählen Julia Fischer, Lucas & Arthur Jussen, Sabine Meyer, Nils Mönkemeyer, Daniel Lozakovich, Alexei Volodin, Alexej Gerassimez, Kristóf Baráti u.a. In der Saison 2025/26 folgen u.a. Debüts beim Brussels Philharmonic, Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra und bei den Tiroler Festspielen.

Felix Mildenberger studierte Orchesterleitung in Freiburg, Wien und beim Aspen Music Festival, u.a. bei Lutz Köhler, Gerhard Markson, Scott Sandmeier, Massimiliano Matesic, Mark Stringer und Alexander Burda; sowie in Meisterkursen u.a. bei David Zinman, Paavo Järvi, Bernard Haitink und Markus Stenz. Nach seinem Gewinn der renommierten Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition im Jahr 2018 war er zwei Jahre lang Assistant Conductor des London Symphony Orchestra und arbeitete eng mit Sir Simon Rattle u.a. zusammen. In gleicher Funktion war er 2019/20 beim Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich für Chefdirigent Paavo Järvi tätig, 2017-19 beim Orchestre National de France für Emmanuel Krivine, sowie mehrfach als „Cover Conductor“ beim Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra u.a. für Bernard Haitink.

Auch im Opernbereich sammelte er als Assistent wertvolle Erfahrungen: an der Deutschen Oper Berlin, am Aspen Opera Center und der Bayerischen Staatsoper. 2024 gab er sein erfolgreiches Debüt an der Deutschen Oper Berlin mit George Benjamins Written on Skin. Als Stipendiat des Dirigentenforums wurde er 2021 in die Künstlerliste „Maestros von Morgen“ des Deutschen Musikrats aufgenommen – eine Auszeichnung langjähriger künstlerischer Qualität. Bereits 2020 erhielt er als erster Dirigent überhaupt den „Prix Young Artist of the Year“ beim Festival der Nationen. Von 2015 bis 2017 lehrte er Orchesterleitung an der Hochschule für Musik Freiburg und leitete während der Mozartwoche 2020 einen Meisterkurs für junge Dirigent*innen an der Universität Mozarteum Salzburg.

Felix Mildenberger – Conductor and Artistic Director

Felix Mildenberger has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Filarmonica Teatro Regio di Torino since 2021 and will become the new Music Director of the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt starting with the 2026–27 season.

A recipient of numerous awards, Felix Mildenberger has conducted many renowned orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the DSO Berlin, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Radio Philharmonic, the hr Symphony Orchestra, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Camerata Salzburg, the Dresdner Philharmonie, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Bremen, Dortmund, and Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestras, the Ensemble Modern, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, and the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra. Among the soloists with whom he has worked are Julia Fischer, Lucas & Arthur Jussen, Sabine Meyer, Nils Mönkemeyer, Daniel Lozakovich, Alexei Volodin, Alexei Gerassimez, Kristóf Baráti, and others. The 2025–26 season will feature debuts with the Brussels Philharmonic, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, and at the Tyrolean Festival, among others.

Felix Mildenberger studied orchestral conducting in Freiburg, Vienna, and at the Aspen Music Festival, under the guidance of Lutz Köhler, Gerhard Markson, Scott Sandmeier, Massimiliano Matesic, Mark Stringer, and Alexander Burda, among others; he also participated in master classes led by David Zinman, Paavo Järvi, Bernard Haitink, and Markus Stenz, among others. After winning the prestigious Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition in 2018, he served as assistant conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra for two years, working closely with Sir Simon Rattle and others. In the same capacity, he served as assistant conductor for Principal Conductor Paavo Järvi at the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich in 2019–20, for Emmanuel Krivine at the Orchestre National de France from 2017 to 2019, and on several occasions as a “cover conductor” for the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, including for Bernard Haitink.

He also gained valuable experience as an assistant in the opera world: at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Aspen Opera Center, and the Bavarian State Opera. In 2024, he made his successful debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin with George Benjamin’s *Written on Skin*. As a scholarship recipient of the Dirigentenforum, he was added to the German Music Council’s “Maestros of Tomorrow” roster in 2021—an honor recognizing long-standing artistic excellence. In 2020, he became the first conductor ever to receive the “Prix Young Artist of the Year” at the Festival of Nations. From 2015 to 2017, he taught orchestral conducting at the Freiburg University of Music, and during Mozart Week 2020, he led a master class for young conductors at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.
